Toronto’s Best Family Events: September 10-12

Now that the kids are back to school, you want to make the most of your time with them on the weekends. Here are a few ideas you can use to fill up this Saturday and Sunday:

1.     TIFF: Sprockets focus

Of the 300 films being screened this weekend during the Toronto International Film Festival, four are suitable for family viewing including: Karla and Jonas, a coming of age story about two young people searching for Jonas’ birth mother and the story of Sammy the sea turtle (recommended 6 and up) comes to life in 3D in Sammy’s Adventures: The Secret Passage.

2.     Migratory Birds Walking Tour

Take the whole family to High Park and learn about migratory birds while enjoying a walk together in the crisp September air.

3.     Peter Pan Play

Tinkerbell has lots of ‘tude in this abbreviated yet updated classic story of Peter Pan. The whole tale is packed into a half hour with no shortage of laughs for everyone.

4.     Corn Roast

Fresh baked goods, live blue grass music, heritage displays and fresh local corn hot off the…whatever it is that roasts corn! When you’re full of corn, browse the antique market or go for a walk around the grounds.

  • Highlight: Corn on the cob!
  • When: September 9, 5-8pm

5.     Thomas & Friends

If you have a child under 6 then you’re familiar with Thomas & Friends. Take your tots to the premiere of the newest Thomas movie with dim lighting and reduced sound for a younger audience.

  • Highlight: Seeing your child’s expression when the screen lights up.
